Can you tell us a little about you?
My name is Eva-Maria Horstick. I am from Germany, but I work internationally.
How and when did you get into photography?I first started taking pictures when I was ten years old. It has always been my greatest wish and a dream come true. The first pictures I took were from my teacher. It was in the Netherlands of her in a bikini. The photos were of course analog.
What does photography mean to you?
So photography has become my life and my love. I was inspired by my own work in the darkroom when I was sixteen. How through my own hands and mind an image comes to life. This inspires me up to today.
Many years ago I started my own business and I knew that it would take a long time to be successful. It’s like running a marathon every day. But I love my work. No matter if I do fashion photography or document a war, work on portraits, architecture, or just stills, street life all over Israel.
Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.
My style is calm not loud. My photos are like poetry for those you love to get lost in poetry.
Where do you get inspiration from?My inspiration comes from my life and my dreams. Fashion too. And the world as it is or seems to be. My goal is for my images to tell a story behind the frame. A sign of emotional reaction for the viewer. A good energy is important for me.
Studio, on location or both?
I used to work in a studio but much prefer to work on location as in Israel, the US, Europe, Kosovo and Africa. At my home too and just outside in the garden or the woods across from my house.
What has been your most memorable session and why?
I have done numerous projects, I even cancelled a life insurance in order to pay for my trips and new equipment.
Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?
I am a professional. As I said, life is art for me.
Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?
I am working with Canon, Nikon and Leica.
What do you think of our new magazine?
I think that your new magazine will be a great opportunity for artists and photographers to reach out to a large public. I like the idea to be connected to people from all over the world.
