Interview: Photographer Mathias Kniepeiss (Austria)
Can you tell us a little about you?
I turned my passion into my profession. 17 years later I am a award winning photographer, lecturer, creative director and I have been working in the fields of sports, industry, portraits, reportage & commercial in over 50 countries of the world for international agencies and brands like Red Bull, Getty Images, WWP, Bavaria, Kaspersky and many more... In addition I am working in the fields of concept development, strategic image composing, implementations of exceptional ideas and together with my team of specialists i create artworks within historical scenarios of different time periods, a mix fusion of staged photography and digital painting.
How and when did you get into photography?
In 2003 I get into photography cause of my hobbies, sports & photography.
What does photography mean to you?
Everything!! Creativitiy, freedom, traveling, meeting people and much more.
Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.
My style is related on the project. Meanwhile I am working in several fields of photography like sports, commercial, reportage, portraits. But I love to stage scenarios more than everything else.
Where do you get inspiration from?
From so many diverse fields. Book, movies, other artists, nature,…
Do you think in advance what you want in the picture?
Yes, preparation and imagination of the result is very important for me.

Both!!
Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?
Professional .
What has been your most memorable session and why?
My first own project “Rococo”. It was one of the biggest and best projects ever. The preparation took 5 months and with a team of 13 people we created 4 pieces of art during a 20 hours shooting day.
Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?
Sony J I am a Sony Europe Imaging Ambassador. The quality and the technology of the cameras and lenses are just outstanding.
What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?
To keep their Passion & Endurance over a long time. Photograph for yourself and challenge yourself as often as possible.
