Interview: Photographer Martin Morávek (Czech Republic)
Can you tell us a little about you?
Of course, my name is Martin Morávek and I am from a small town in the Czech Republic, Jablonec nad Nisou. I like humor, good light and pleasant people :-)
How and when did you get into photography?
It was about five years ago when I got my hands on a camera and tried to play with it a bit. I enjoyed it so much that I started to pay more attention to it and started learning from people who were taking the kind of photos that I wanted to be able to do too. Over time, I moved from landscape to portrait photography.
What does photography mean to you?
For me, photography means the expression of mood, emotions, or space. In its own way, it is also an expression of an idea, one's own point of view.
Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.
Boudoir, classic portraits, landscape. I enjoy photographing both models and going out into nature. It requires a completely different approach, be it in terms of technique, composition, light, planning. There is a big difference between taking pictures of a frozen landscape alone outside or being in a studio with a model with whom you have to arrange a photo shoot, you have to accommodate her as much as possible so that the mood for the photo shoot is relaxed. And that's what I like about it 😊
Do you think in advance what you want in the picture?
Certainly, I don't do any photography without preparation or a specific idea.
Where do you get inspiration from?
I like to be inspired by good photos, but I don't copy, I don't enjoy it. My way of doing it is that I find a nice place and than I look for a model that suits me the most for that given place. Or vice versa, when a model approaches me, I plan the location and the overall concept of the photos accordingly.
Studio, on location or both?
Both have their charms.
Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?
Photography is a hobby, I can afford the luxury and I am not addicted to photography. At the moment I can't really imagine taking pictures because I have to and I always relax. Either during the photo shoot or during the subsequent post process. I hope it lasts as long as possible 😊
What has been your most memorable session and why?
First photo shoot in the studio with a model 😊 I was lucky to have a smart girl who takes pictures for a long time and very well.
Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?
Nikon forever 😊 Favorite lens is Nikon Z 85mm, 1.8 S
What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?
I don't know if I'm the right person to give advice, but definitely don't underestimate the equipment. Lights, proper case for equipment, camera, lenses. When you approach it with enthusiasm, it's great, but that's not the only thing you can do to make a good photo. And then be sure to take pictures, take pictures, take pictures and be careful not to make mistakes.
What do you think of our new magazine? It looks great and is a great place for presentation and inspiration.
