Interview: Photographer Hiro (Japan)
Can you tell us a little about you?
My name is Hiro. I live in Kyoto, Japan. I quit my job as a salaried worker two and a half years ago and have been working as a freelance photographer.
How and when did you get into photography?
I love to travel and started taking photographs of landscapes on my travels. I got into the depths of portrait photography when I photographed a friend.
What does photography mean to you?
Art.
Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.
I am a portrait photographer. I shoot with the theme of "cool, beautiful and dramatic". I like low key expression.
Where do you get inspiration from?
Photography, art, and movie.
Do you think in advance what you want in the picture?
Yes, many begin by creating a photographic image. From there, the model, location, date and time are determined.
Studio, on location or both?
Both.
Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?
I am a freelance photographer.
What has been your most memorable session and why?
Sunsets are my favorite situation. No two sunsets are the same. The sunsets at the beach are the best every time. It is always the best.
Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?
For the last two years we have been using Canon. However, due to the large size and weight of Canon I decided to switch to SONY... My most favorite focal length is 85mm.
What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?
If you are thinking about becoming independent, please take action as soon as possible. It may be a steep road, but if you don't take the first step, the road will never begin. Have courage!
