Interview: Photograper Vicente Serra (Spain)
Can you tell us a little about you?
I´m known in the social media as Vinzenso. I´m 51 years old and I live in Valencia. Besides photography I like also tennis and padel. During the process of editing my photos I like to listen to music. I´m married have to kids, a girl of nineteen years old and a boy sixteen years old.
How and when did you get into photography?
I started with photography due a injuring in my shoulder by playing tennis. I had to decide to go for a complicated surgery or stop playing tennis, I decided to stop playing tennis and I filled this space with another hobby which is photography. I was at the age of 39 years, had no idea of being a photographer as editing photos.
What does photography mean to you?
Photography is the moment that I disconnect of my daily problems, it´s the way for me to have pleasure, being relaxed and happy. This I try to transmit to all the people I work with during the sessions.
Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.
I can´t define my style, in the portrets I make, I search constantly new registers, I search for emotions as well that I´m looking for pictures which are timeless it doesn´t matter how long ago I made the picture or how many times you look at the photo, the model is not important the emotions which the model transmits is important. What I´m search in my art is emotions and feelings.
Where do you get inspiration from?
My inspirations are brought up by the model and the style the model select/elect. Also a big influence is the place and environment where the session takes place. I do not accept any model as also the rope the model wear, I don´t start my sessions till I have filled all the pieces. This way of approaching the photography is my trademark. From the moment I have all in place I start my journey to elegance, emotions, and beauty, this way we are all satisfied and willing to do more sessions.
Do you think in advance what you want in the picture?
I start my sessions with my mind in blank, I don´t prepare any posses, my creative part I leave in the hands of my sensibility, I put the model in different posses and places and the rest is in the hands of the emotions and feelings if have in that moment and start to shoot.
Studio, on location or both?
I have no studio, I work outside or I search for especial locations. I love to work with natural light so I try to avoid flashlights.
Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?
I don´t consider myself an Hobbyist more an advanced amateur. I don´t get paid for my photography so I´m not a professional, I have my job for me photography is a hobby, it relaxes me, I enjoy but I´m very serious and demanding to obtain the best result for the models I´m working with I also want is that the spectator enjoys what we make. Besides this I always want the best result for all involved parties.
What has been your most memorable session and why?
I don´t have any favourite session, each of one them I have done with the same joy and pleasure, my goal is to make each session better than the one before. Out of 300 pictures I shoot I make a selection of 15 till 20 photos.
Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?
I use a Nikon as from the moment I started now I´m using a Nikon D750. I have lenses all of the static. I have a 35mm, 50mm, 85mm and a 135mm, most of the with wide opening of 1.4 less the one of 135mm as his wide opening is 1.8. My favourite lens is the 85mm, I´m using this lens 99% in all of my sessions. This is the queen of the “Full Frame” lens.
What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?
My advice is that the person knows himself, that he knows what he wants and that he knows his feelings and emotions so he can transmit those stimulations to the model during the sessions.
What do you think of our new magazine?
I think it´s a wonderful platform to connect people in a elegant way. From now on I will follow this magazine. I think you do a great job and selection, I´m for sure that people who like photography will like this initiative.
