Interview: Model Doris Kemptner (Austria)

Can you tell us a little about you?

Hello! My name is Doris Kemptner and I am Austrian. I am a model since many years but not “only” a model. My passion is to learn new things and I am quite ambitious. I love everything that has to do with evolving and healing. Therefore, I hold university degrees in philosophy, psychology and nutrition for teaching and a diploma in Chinese medicine nutrition. I travelled so much which also gave me the opportunity to become a Reiki Master, a yoga teacher and a breathwork facilitator as well, but my biggest love besides of all of that is being a single mum of a very cute and sweet three-year-old son.

I am looking back to a long and international model career with Onstays in Milan, New York and Madrid, but I also worked, for a central European model, in quite unusual model markets as for example in India, Thailand, Vietnam and Mexico. I was there Onstay to enjoy also some spiritual adventures, to get to know new cultures and to use modelling as a tool to learn about new ideas and to go deeper into spirituality. Nowadays I am only accepting model collaborations that make me happy and that give me a good feeling while connecting with lovely people. When I was younger, I also did catalogue shoots, lookbooks etc. to earn money and less just for the pleasure of standing in front of the camera.

If you could change anything about yourself, what would it be?

I would change my habit of being too much online. I think I should take more time off the internet and the telephone.

How did you start modelling?

27 Years ago, there was a magazine in Austria looking for models that would fit into an advertisement for milk, it was called milk- white energy. One of my little brothers made photos for it, and they took me. This was the first time I travelled with my mum from the countryside in Austria to Vienna. After that my career started.

What do you think of the work as a model?

I love and always loved to work as a model, but I see that this business has changed a lot. The payments for modelling jobs got much worse, but from the ethical aspect this industry got so much better in my view. Now there is a bigger variety of models, and they don’t have to be so skinny anymore. When I started with modelling heroin chic was the only look on the catwalk, this were just very, very skinny girls and it was a challenge for many models to stay skinny and the lifestyle involved drugs, parties and a very unhealthy life with smoking and starving to maintain this figure and to cope with the stress. Nowadays I believe modelling is more about being healthy, happy, beautiful and in a trained shaped. Just the beauty surgery idea is making me a bit sad, but I believe also this will change the next years and will go back more and more to a real, natural look as a contrast to AI models.

What is your beauty regimen?

I really do take care about myself. I practice Yoga for my body, preferred in Orion Healing Centre in Thailand or at my favourite gym in Austria, where I also teach Yoga myself. It is called JOHN HARRIS FITNESS. There is also a big wellness area, it is very beautiful and wellness I would count to my personal beauty regimen as well. Regular skincare with essential oils of my brand at www.doriskemptner.com and my own, 100 % natural skincare of Herb Dee Ka, really helps me to stay young and fresh looking. Guasa is a secret tip of mine and of course Chinese Medicine. I also do a lot of acupuncture. But the right nutrition is everything! With the nutrition I try to give my best and to find a 20:80 balance between a suitable nutrition and fun :).

What are your personal qualities which distinguish you from others?

That’s a good question. I would say I am reliable and honest and special as everyone is unique and special. As model I would say I am a good package if a client is looking for a model that is not too young, with a nice, big smile, a healthy body and brain J and a professional working attitude.

What are your plans for the future?

I would slowly love to settle down in a beautiful and natural place in Europe with a loving, faithful and kind husband, to live close to an excellent school for my little son and to still follow my beloved modelling jobs until I will leave this world.

What are some of your favourite experiences so far?

I was Miss Vienna, Playmate all over the world (it started in Germany), but I also worked for brands like Riva, Kaanda, Jones or Louis Vuitton, I did for example a very well-paid show for LV in Kuwait. In Italy I worked for a shopping channel which made a lot of fun and now I am the face of a new American brand which is called VAIDA.

Of course collecting magazine covers was always on of my biggest passions and I am lucky that in all this long time of modelling I got a few J of them as for example Wiener, Maxim, Playboy, Cosmopolitan, Sportwear International… and my dream is to get gifted a Vogue or an Elle cover as well this life, but I don’t want to pay for it, I would like to receive it because they find that I am an interesting type or their magazine cover J.

Do you have any advice for those who want to start modelling?

Yes, I do! Don’t take any harsh words or critics too serious and always keep a PLAN B possibility, which for me was to study and to learn new things. It is important to never 100% depend on modelling, but this is just my view. It can be totally different for someone else.

What do you think of the magazine?

The magazine is very nice. I like the idea of bringing people together, modelling also is art for me and creative work together, I love this aspect on modelling. I am grateful for magazines like this. Thank you for having me!
