Interview: Photographer Alexander Sviridov (Canada)
Can you tell us a little about you?
I am a photo-artist located in Toronto, Canada. I initially studied art design in Russia, where I was born. Since then, I have developed a passion for photography which is now my main art medium.
How and when did you get into photography?
Having been an artist for my entire life, I am always searching for new and creative ways to utilize what I have learned over the years. I became interesting in photography as an art passion around 8 years ago when I was taking photos of my beautiful daughter, who was 3 years old at the time.
What does photography mean to you?
In the past few years, photography has become my passion and my life. I can’t remember a day that has gone by where I have not held a camera in my hands.
Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.
I have a unique style that incorporates my knowledge of painting into my photography. My photos are edited to appear as if they are paintings, and they are created in a classical style involving some surrealistic elements.
Where do you get inspiration from?
My family inspires and motivates me to constantly come up with creative thoughts for pictures. I also gather inspiration from classic artworks of the old masters.
Do you think in advance what you want in the picture?
I plan out my pictures in advance, and always get a vivid image of what I want it to look like before I take the picture.
Studio, on location or both?
I operate in my studio at home.
Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?
I originally started off as a hobbyist, and have always set a goal to become a paid professional. I am humbled to say that I have achieved this goal in the past year.
What has been your most memorable session and why?
Using an authentic antique lantern as the main source of light in a portrait photoshoot of a female. I found this untraditional source of light to be very challenging to work with. This project helped me develop a better understanding of how to incorporate realistic lighting into my photographs.
Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?
I use a Canon, and my favorite lens are Canon Macro100mm 2.8 and Canon 80mm 1.8
What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?
What worked for me was setting myself apart from others and building a unique personality and style in my photographs. It is always important to remain creative and stay true to your imagination while also having a deep understanding in photography techniques.
What do you think of our new magazine?
Modellenland Magazine is filled with beautiful publications from talented photographers from all around the world. It is a great magazine to showcase and bring into light many new and upcoming photographers.
