Interview: Photographer Franco Cantarello (Italy)
Can you tell us a little about you?
I was born 52 years ago in Sicily, for more than ten years I live in Rome with my family. My main job is IT manager.
How and when did you get into photography?
My first photograph was taken in September 1973; I was 5 years old. Photography has always been in my life.
What does photography mean to you?
For me photography is a way of representing emotions. My camera is my best friend.
Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.
I love black and white and photographing details. I prefer still life, glamor, bodyscape, nude and live concerts.
Where do you get inspiration from?
I take inspiration from the moment and emotions that I experience during the shots.
Do you think in advance what you want in the picture ?
It depends on the genre of photography; if it's still life or bodyscape I first think about how to set the shot. Otherwise I let myself be carried away by emotions.
Studio, on location or both?
It depends on the shooting, I like them both.
Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?
For me, photography is mainly a hobby, but also often requested as a wedding photographer.
What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?
My advice is to photograph with passion; it is essential to feel pleasure and emotion in what you do.
What has been your most memorable session and why?
Three years ago, a shooting with a Brazilian model under a waterfall. I had to go into the water up to my neck; it was the only way to go behind the waterfall. I held the camera up high with my hands hoping not to slide into the water. The water was very thick.
Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?
I have always used Nikon camera. Like Nikon and Sigma lenses.
What do you think of our new magazine?
It is an excellent initiative.
