Interview: Photographer Elena Beliaeva (Russia)
Can you tell us a little about you?
My name is Elena. I was born in Russia. Since I was 17 years old I became financially independent. Moved apart from my parents I began to study chemistry. Meanwhile i was working as a project and product manager, events executive, doing modeling and photography.
After finishing my degree in Moscow I moved to France and during my first year I was living in Toulouse, in the south of the country and was studying over there. Then I realized that the fashion industry was always my passion and my decision to move to Paris didn’t take a long time. Paris gave me the opportunity to work as a sales representative in a German medical company. They gave me the occasion to travel with them all over the world and participate in the largest international exhibitions and forums. However I was always keeping myself busy with modeling and photography. When I got the chance to have a new experience I moved to Middle East without any doubts. And now here I am!
How and when did you get into photography?
Since I started my modeling career I was very interested in photography as well. And one day I decided to have my own project. That was the beginning.
What does photography mean to you?
Photography for me is the way to catch moments. Moments of life, moments of happiness, moments of beauty. Photography - the sarcophagus of the moment.
Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.
My own intuition is always working for me. I trust myself and my taste. For any previous orders I am trying to be attached, to be totally involved in the process. I am not dictating my style to models, I am listening to and feeling people in front of me to create a harmony that works best for both of us.
Where do you get inspiration from?
People - their energy, their story, their beauty.
Studio, on location or both?
I will give my preference for natural light.
Do you think in advance what you want in the picture ?
When I look at people, I already see which kind of image we can realize together. I can see hair, makeup, style of clothes, location, poses.... And even how she will look like with my photoshop!
Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?
Hobbyist ! I need to feel inspired, here is the secret of my works.
Inspiration and motivation go hand in hand for me. What motivates me? People and…Money.
Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?
Canon 50mm !
What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?
Be free in your mind and don't be afraid to copy famous maîtres !
What do you think of the magazine?
I appreciate sharing my life experience with you. Thank you and wish you all the best!
Keep it up!
