Interview: Photographer Alex Butler (Italy)
Can you tell us a little about you?
Of course, I'm Alex Butler, I'm 27 and I'm an Italian photographer. I love taking portraits, but my work also includes artistic nudes, glamour and fashion photography.
How and when did you get into photography? My experience as a photographer begins seven years ago. I have not attended academies, I have always been a selftaught and a great photography lover. I bought my first camera in 2012 and bought it without knowing how to use it because I had never had one. From the moment I picked it up, I started photographing landscapes. Then one day I met a girl and I asked her to pose for me, and from that moment I mainly dedicated myself to photographing people, my greatest interest.
What does photography mean to you?
Photography gives me a sense of total freedom. For me it means to be free to express my creativity.
Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.
I don't have a predefined style, I like to be free to express myself according to the model in front of me. I love using natural light and I work a lot on post production focusing on details, in particular on the skin and its texture.
Where do you get inspiration from? I spend a lot of time on my photographic research which I mainly do on Instagram. Then during my travels, I get inspiration from the place where I am and from the sensations that it gives to me.
Do you think in advance what you want in the picture ?
No, or at least not the final result. I decide the choice of the outfit with the model, then I choose the location and I start shooting following the natural light. I like to capture the naturalness of the model's movements.
Studio, on location or both?
Both, but I prefer to take pictures in location.
Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?
My passion is also my work. I’m a paid professional.
What has been your most memorable session and why?
I don't have one in my mind. My sessions are all memorable sessions because this work allows me to meet so many different people and new places for this reason every time is a new experience to remember.
Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?
Nikon. My favorite lens is 105 mm f 2.8
What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?
My advice is to focus on creating high quality photographic contents.
What do you think of our new magazine?
