Interview: Model Silvia Amati (Italy)

Can you tell us a little about you?

Well…you know, I'm that type of person who likes to talk a lot, actually too much, but I'll try to be as short as possible. I'm an almost 20 years old girl, student at the Biotechnology Faculty in Milan and freelance photomodel. Modeling is not my only passion: I absolutely love singing, I would do it every time, anywhere. I'm cheerful and friendly and I love making people laugh.

If you could change anything about yourself, what would it be?

Oh, I spent so much time wondering about how I would look with a different eye color or body shape that, now, I just appreciate myself as I am. But there are still some things I'd like to change:

first of all, I wish I wasn't clinically anxious; second of all, I would love to be strong or independent as lots of girls already are, but because of my studies I just can't.

How did you start modeling?

Quite randomly actually, I've always loved posing for my friends and stuff, but I wanted to shoot with a real photographer at some point. Luckily, I managed to get a shooting done with a photographer who was looking for new faces and from that moment I never stopped.

What do you think of the work as a model?

I don't consider myself as a "real" model, but more like a photomodel: I've never run the catwalk or stuff like that (even though I'd love to try, once in my life). If you want to be a big supermodel, you need to have certain qualities and work even harder to get where you want. I don't think it is as easy as people think, but, as a photomodel things are different.

What is your beauty regimen?

I'm not that keen on makeup and beauty, so I always go for a natural look. If I wanna spice my look up, I try my best to do a decent winged line and not put mascara all over my face (and It actually comes out pretty good sometimes).

I try to take care of my skin the more I can, but blackheads seem to like it more than I do.

What are your personal qualities which distinguish you from others?

Sincerity is one of the most important qualities I recognize to myself, I'm very direct with people and I always say what I think, whether people like it or not. I'm way too sarcastic and ironic sometimes, but I actually like being like this, it helps me when it comes to knowing new people and starting a conversation.

What are your plans for the future?

Great question. I'd love to graduate in Pharmacological Biotechnology in order to be a researcher and project new cures for diseases. Then, it wouldn't be bad to have my own home to live in with my boyfriend.

What are some of your favorite experiences so far?

As a photomodel, I've had so many good experiences that I don't really know which ones to choose to be my favorites! One of the most exciting was surely when I basically turned into a fairy princess, it was so weird to see myself like that!

Do you have any advice for those who want to start modeling?

Modeling is not easy as it could seem; if you want to become a model, then be sure to have certain qualities, because that is what is required nowadays from agency. But there are lots of things regarding modeling anyone could do without having long legs, a small waist or any of the other qualities agencies search for. I'm so short you can't even imagine, but that hasn't stopped me from posing for photographers and having a good portfolio!

What do you think of the magazine?

I think it's one of the best I saw so far, it gives the opportunity to not just photographers, but also models, MUAs, excetera...to be noticed.
