Interview: Photographer Ilenia Piccininno (Italy)

Can you tell us a little about you? - My name is Ilenia Piccininno, I am 27 years old and live in the romantic Verona. - Mi chiamo Ilenia Piccininno, ho 27 anni e vivo nella romantica Verona.

How and when did you get into photography? - I have been practicing photography for 12 years, I developed this passion as a self-taught person, I never took courses, my only teacher is VOGUE, which is still my source of inspiration. In fact, the photography I practice is fashion photography. - Pratico la fotografia da 12 anni, ho sviluppato questa passione da autodidatta, non ho mai fatto corsi, l’unico mio maestro è VOGUE che tutt’ora è la mia fonte d’ispirazione. Difatti la fotografia che pratico è la fotografia di moda.

What does photography mean to you? - Photography for me is life. Taking pictures is not just taking a nice picture, but trying to make the shot live. Shot to excite and excite. - La fotografia per me è vita. Fotografare non è solo scattare una bella foto, ma cercare di rendere lo scatto vivo. Scatto per emozionarmi ed emozionare.

Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers. - I don't have a particular style, my photography is inspired by fashion in advertising magazines. - Non ho uno stile in particolare, la mia fotografia si ispira alla moda alle riviste alla pubblicità.

Where do you get inspiration from? - My source of inspiration is VOGUE, I leaf through the magazine for hours and hours and what strikes me I try to interpret it in my own way during the shootings. - La mia fonte d’ispirazione è VOGUE, sfoglio ore e ore la rivista e quello che mi colpisce cerco di intrepretarlo a modo mio negli shooting.

Do you think in advance what you want in the picture? - It doesn't always depend, sometimes I have specific themes on which to shoot. But most of the time I see visions of what the photographic project will look like. I consider myself a visionary. - Dipende non sempre, a volte ho dei temi precisi su cui elaborare lo shooting. Ma la maggior parte delle volte mi appaiono delle visioni su come sarà il progetto fotografico. Mi ritengo una visionaria.

Studio, on location or both? - Both in the studio and outdoors depends on the theme. However, I prefer Location in the open. - Fotografo sia in studio che all’aperto dipende dal tema. Preferisco comunque Location all’aperto.

Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional? - For now photography is just a hobby that I like to keep, then if in the future it becomes a job, then it will be a dream come true. - Per ora la fotografia è solo un hobby che mi piace mantenere, poi se in futuro diventerà un lavoro, allora sarà un sogno che si realizza.

What has been your most memorable session and why? - The project that I preferred among all was "In my bathroom, I'm Free". It was difficult to do this shooting as the model was immersed in a flower-covered tub and managing the light was not easy, but at the end of the work the result was very satisfying, thanks also to the collaboration of Mua: Alessandra Dal Forno the which helps me make up the models, and of course also the model: Alexandra Allie who lent herself for this project. - Il progetto che ho preferito tra tutti è stato “In my bathroom, I’m Free”. E’ stato difficile realizzare questo shooting poichè la modella era immersa in una vasca ricoperta di fiori e gestire la luce non è stato semplice, ma a fine del lavoro il risultato è stato molto soddisfacente, grazie anche alla collaborazione della Mua: Alessandra Dal Forno la quale mi aiuta a truccare le modelle, e ovviamente anche alla modella : Alexandra Allie che si è prestata per questo progetto.

Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens? - I am loyal to Canon but Nikon wouldn't mind, never say never in life. - Io sono fedele a Canon ma la Nikon non mi dispiacerebbe, nella vita mai dire mai.

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business? - To always risk and not be beaten down by other photographers that you consider better than you, "you are you and your art is unique" - Di rischiare sempre e non farsi abbattere da altri fotografi che ritieni migliori di te , “tu sei tu e la tua arte è unica”

- An interesting magazine, especially for the opportunity you give to photographers to express themselves about their art and their work.

- Una rivista interessante, soprattutto per l’oppurtunità che date ai fotografi di esprimersi sulla loro arte e sul loro lavoro.
