Interview: Photographer Mihaela Coman (Romania)
Can you tell us a little about you?
First of all: hello! I am a fine-art, portrait and fashion photographer from Romania. I study curently medicine and I love it because I see many things in a different light than before.
How and when did you get into photography?
I started photography in a dark period of my life because things didn't go well as they should have. So I started taking selfies with my phone, really dark and strange selfies. And then I began to like it, so after some years my mom bought me a camera and I began by taking photos of my bestfriend (which was also a model). Even if it occurred at a strange period of my life, I'm grateful it happened.
What does photography mean to you?
I see photography as an expression of my or other people's feelings, a moment when you are true to yourself.
Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.
I really don't know if it's a style, but I will try to explain. I don't like to use external flash, I really hate it, sometimes I use contrast but I'm not fond of high contrasts . I use dead colours, but lately I started to use vivid colours (it's just a phase, I think).
Where do you get inspiration from?
Dreams, people (their feelings), or sometimes I see an object and imagine how it will look in a photo and I start creating stories baased on than object.
Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?
For now just a hobby.
Studio, on location or both?
Both, but i prefer nature more.
Think you in advance what you want in the picture?
Sometimes yes, but sometimes no. If it's for an editorial, yes, I think in advance, but not all the details.
What has been your most memorable session and why?
I think the sessions with my bestfriend, who is also a model. I loved it because we share a connection which I don't share with any model during shootings. She knows exactly what I want from her, without saying anything.
Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?
Nikon D7000 with sigma 35mm. What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business? Never give up !
What do you think of our new magazine?
I think it's great and it looks promising.
