Interview: Photographer Pascal Biston (Belgium)
Can you tell us a little about you? I'm Pascal Biston, 51 years old, analyst-developer in medical environment. I make photography more by passion than business. How and when did you get into photography? I began a few years ago with nature pictures on vacancy. Some friends liked my pictures and ask me why I did not shoot models. After a few moments of hesitation, I had the opportunity to participate in a workshop and after this one the adventure began. What does photography mean to you? For now, photography allows me to evacuate the stress of my professional work and being creative enough it frees my mind. It also allows me to meet artistic people and I spend all my free time in this area. Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers. Unlike a lot of photographers, I do not have a unique style. I do as well fashion, portrait, makeup, fantasy, boudoir, artistic nude. Where do you get inspiration from? Pinterest has a huge source of inspiration and I also look at a few photographers recognized in their respective fields. In this case, social networks also have very good photographers whether on Facebook or Instagram. Other less good ones too LOL Think you in advance what you want in the picture? Mostly not. Sometimes when I make big shoot with stylist, makeup artist, hair dresser, yes, in that case I make a moodboard. Studio, on location or both? Both. Everything depends on the style but most of the time, I prefer outside and use the studio only when the style or weather requires it. Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional? Hobbyist for sure but would try to be paid sometimes. What has been your most memorable session and why? The theme was the feathers. We had thought of a hidden nude session. One of our favorite models accepted and realized with this session her first nude. Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?
Canon 5D mark IV with 70-200mm F/2,8. The result with this lens is fabulous. What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business? Shoot, shoot, shoot. Try everything, do not take social media like a reference, look after professional photographer to see their works. And take your time, the world was not done in a day. What do you think of our new magazine? I like your quality pictures and for me, it is also an inspiration by the variety of its content.
