Bio: Photographer Anthon Smith (USA)
Anthon’s photographs reflect a place of open-ended and silent intimacy – with nature and urban landscapes, with ourselves, and with each other – all suspended uniquely in time. “Creating is like falling in love. Being completely immersed, and being influenced and changed in the process. Capturing that, one simple emotion or moment, keeps me making new photos.” Each photograph feels like an expression of a moment; often of a connection to a person or a place or an experience. The personalities, uniqueness and individuality propel the work forward, bringing a sense of spontaneity and honesty to the photos. “I like connecting to people that bring up something new in me; my muses fuel so much of my passion,” Anthon explains. “Intimacy and beauty, and power in the context of connection drive me to create. There’s an emotional palette that comes with intimacy. Vulnerability is a big part of it.”
